Temporary closure – part of Commercial RoadPart of Commercial Road Morwell will be closed to traffic travelling into the CBD from the west (from the Moe direction) for approximately one week commencing Monday 1 November until 8 November 2004. By Latrobe Shire Council - 26th October 2004 - Back to News The affected east-bound section of Commercial Road is between the Jane Street Bridge and the Maryvale Crescent Roundabout.
Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, said the temporary closure was required to allow reconstruction of the Maryvale Crescent roundabout and the Morwell CBD western approach to be undertaken.
"Given the narrowness of the road in this area it is not possible to undertake the works and keep the road open to east-bound traffic," Mr Buckley explained.
"Work is currently being undertaken on preparing the new car park between the Civic Square and the Rose Garden. Allied to this is a new footpath extending west from the Civic Square, together with the car park access and some associated landscaping works. In the interests of safety, the eastbound section of Commercial Road will need to be temporarily closed to complete these works," Mr Buckley said.
Manager Asset and Infrastructure Strategy, Paul Henderson, said motorists travelling into the Commercial Road CBD between Monday 1 November and Monday 8 November are advised to detour via McDonald Street; or via Driffield Road, Avondale Road and Hazelwood Road. "The detours will be well signposted," Mr Henderson said.
"Traffic travelling in a westerly direction will not be affected by the works," he added.
