Box Office season is all it’s ‘cracked up’ to be in 2004International comedian Dave Grant had his audience in fits of laughter when he performed a comedy routine at the launch of the 2004 Season of Box Office Events at Latrobe Regional Gallery in Morwell. By Latrobe City Council - 15th March 2004 - Back to News Before Mr Grant took to the stage, Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, declared the Box Office season officially open whilst more than 60 guests made the most of the sociable atmosphere and enjoyed local wines, cheeses and gourmet produce.
Latrobe City’s Box Office and Program Coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that throughout the 2004 season a wide variety of performances and performers will visit Latrobe City.
"This year has already had an impressive start with Dave Grant kicking off the 2004 Box Office season in his own unique and hilarious manner. However, there is much more to come in what will be a truly exciting theatre season in Latrobe City," Ms Roberts explained.
"The Comedy Festival, ‘He Died with a Felafel in his Hand’ and ‘Sahara, Live in Concert’ are both coming to local theatres, along with some big names, such as Debra Byrne and Dennis Coard, who are taking part in the Morning Music Program."
"One of the exciting feature attractions for this year is the Peta Murray (Salt) smash hit ballroom dancing comedy, ‘Wallflowering’, staring the fabulous Noeline Brown," Ms Roberts said.
A new feature to the Performing Arts Program for 2004 is a series of performances tailored specifically to the needs and requirements of primary and secondary school students.
Performances of 'His Majesty's New Clothes', presented by Barking Ghecko Theatre Company, and ‘Possum Magic', a Garry Ginivan attraction, will be offered to Latrobe City’s primary school students. The program also includes The Forwards (Regional Arts Victoria and Zeal Theatre) and The Children of the Black Skirt (Real TV project commissioned by Queensland Arts Council) for secondary school students.
"All performances have a specific curriculum focus and teacher's notes are available on the Regional Arts Victoria website," Ms Roberts said.
"There really is something for everyone in this varied line up of shows and events scheduled for 2004," Ms Roberts added.
The Box Office Event with Dave Grant was presented by mecu in partnership with Latrobe City.
