Nominations Open For Australia Day Awards

East Gippsland Shire Council is now calling for nominations for the annual Australia Day Awards.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 13th December 2004 - Back to News

Three shire-wide awards will be decided for 2004 – the East Gippsland Shire Citizen of the Year, the East Gippsland Shire Young Person of the Year and the East Gippsland Shire Community Event of the Year.

They are in addition to the regular awards presented at community celebrations normally held in Bairnsdale, Lindenow, Paynesville, Lakes Entrance, Orbost, Omeo and Bruthen.

The concept of three major awards was developed two years ago and has proven to be highly successful.

"These awards represent the whole of East Gippsland and acknowledge outstanding service by an individual and a community event," Mayor Jane Rowe said.

"The format helps recognise all individuals and townships as being part of the greater East Gippsland Shire.

"Local communities can also nominate local towns people and/or events and submit them into the broader East Gippsland Shire awards.

Cr Rowe said this time it was Paynesville’s turn to host the Shire-wide ceremony and the award winners would be officially announced at the Paynesville Australia Day breakfast on Wednesday, 26 January," she said.

"It’s will also be the ideal day for each community to celebrate at the breakfast and recognise the efforts of those who are nominated and win awards."

Nominations for the East Gippsland Shire Citizen of the Year, Young Person of the Year and Community Event of the Year close on Tuesday, 6 January 2005. Forms are available at the Shire Corporate Centre, Business Centres and on Council’s web site at www.egipps.vic.gov.au.
