Latrobe Valley Will Receive $1.79 Million Boost From $170 Million Repair And Restore Budget The Latrobe Valley area will be one of the first sites to benefit from the Victorian Government¡¦s $170 million package to address the condition of Victorian roads, Member for Morwell Russell Northe announced today. By Russell Northe - 22nd August 2013 - Back to News Mr Northe said the funding will go towards repairing a number of key roads in the region.
¡§Sections of Traralgon-Balook Road, Loy Yang-Morwell Road, Tyers Road and Boolarra-Churchill Road will all benefit from this funding¡¨, Mr Northe said.
¡§These are all quite busy roads that are used by many locals on and industry on a daily basis.
¡§The first contract to carry out these works will be advertised in coming weeks, with repairs set to start later this year in the warmer conditions required to construct road surfacing works.¡¨
Mr Northe said that for the first time, VicRoads has a dedicated, multi-year capital program for road maintenance.
¡§This initiative includes $90 million which will go towards renewing deteriorated roads by strengthening the pavement and a further $80 million for resurfacing works to make roads more resilient to wet weather,¡¨ Mr Northe said.
¡§The $170 million package will be delivered across three years, and will be a big improvement on the previous system that allocated funds on an annual basis.
¡§The previous system sometimes resulted in a short-term focus and didn¡¦t always provide the best solution for the long-term.
¡§Making this significant commitment over the course of three years will give certainty which will lead to better decisions about the timing and type of maintenance to be carried out.
¡§It will also help us achieve better value for money from our maintenance contracts ¡V all of this will result in better roads for Victorian motorists.¡¨
The following sections of roads in the Latrobe Valley area will benefit from this funding:
„h Traralgon-Balook Road- $740,000 for repairs at Callignee
„h Loy Yang-Morwell Road- $100,000 for repairs at Hazelwood North
„h Tyers Road- $400,000 for repairs near Traralgon
„h Boolarra-Churchill Road- $550,000 for repairs near Yinnar
