Ingram pushes for Omeo Highway upgrade

The Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has presented a petition to the Minister for Transport, Peter Batchelor, highlighting the need to upgrade the Omeo Highway, between Anglers Rest and Mitta Mitta.

"The community is concerned about the current condition of the road and is keen to gain the economic benefits when the last 30 kilometres of gravel and rock surface is upgraded to a sealed pavement," Mr Ingram said.

"This area has a strong tourism focus and the condition of the roads can be a deterrent to some visitors.

"The link is an important tourist route and, with planning and promotion to provide better links for the Omeo district with the north east and Falls Creek, it can only be of benefit to the region.
