Council provides support for fire affected communities

Wellington Shire Council is encouraging communities affected by the bushfires to get together to enjoy the company of neighbours and friends and also talk about their experiences.

By Wellington Shire Council - 16th January 2007 - Back to News

Glenys Butler, Manager Community Strengthening and Municipal Recovery Manager for Wellington Shire Council said that the financial assistance can be provided to give communities the opportunity to come together for something positive and enjoyable after a very stressful period.

"It is up to the communities involved to decide what kind of event or activity they would like to organise, it may be a community BBQ or afternoon tea. Just something that the community as a whole can enjoy after some pretty harrowing times" said Ms Butler.

Community groups interested in organising events in areas that have been directly, or indirectly affected by the fires are asked to contact Glenys Butler on 1300 366 244 to see if they are eligible for assistance.
