The award was presented for a partnership approach to supporting the community through the conference around the topic of ‘Living With Bushfire’ held at Federation University Churchill Campus.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said the award was an outstanding achievement.

"Latrobe City Council worked with Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DEWLP), Parks Victoria, the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Federation University to deliver the conference.

"It was a collaborative effort that included the health, safety and wellbeing of the community at its heart. The conference aims to increase awareness and understanding of bushfire behaviours, to provide practical advice on living in a bushfire prone region and to bring local stakeholders together with members of the community," Cr O’Callaghan said.

The submission was written by Andy Gillham of Parks Victoria and the project was led by Peter West DEWLP, supported by Lance King, Coordinator Emergency Management Latrobe City Council, Wendy Wright Federation University and John Crane, CFA

"This is a great achievement. The conference was well-received by the community, which is important. However, congratulations must go to the team, and especially to Latrobe City Council’s coordinator of emergency management Lance King, for their efforts. To be publically acknowledged in an awards ceremony is a just reward for a considered and inclusive event and submission," Cr O’Callaghan concluded.
