Gippsland Lakes blue-green algal blooms confirmed

Testing and analysis will aid in recovery

Toxic blue-green algal blooms have been confirmed in the Gippsland Lakes from northern Lake King through to Lakes Entrance.

High levels of freshwater toxic algae are also persisting in the Tambo River.

Dr Keith Thomas from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment says algae in the lakes system appears to be floating close to the surface.
