Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hancock, said organisers had been overwhelmed by the positive response from business and community across Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley.

"There are now over 55 events officially listed in the local program. This makes the Gippsland and Latrobe Innovation Festival the largest regional innovation festival in Australia.

"The Gippsland and Latrobe Innovation Festival has now launched a mini-website courtesy of the Gippsland Portal based at GREEN INC, so those wanting to get a preview of all of the events taking place, can log onto www.innovation.gippsland.com; Mr Hancock explained.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said the festival was living proof that the region can hold its head high. "In terms of innovation we are setting the agenda for regional Australia. What makes this festival really exciting is the way that it covers the full range of innovation in regional life," Cr White said.

"The variety of events featured in his year’s Innovation Festival is bound to capture the imagination and attention of everyone in the community in one way or another; whether their interests lie in fields such as the arts, education or social issues, or in science, technology or agriculture."

Mr Hancock said one of the key objectives of the festival was to encourage innovation across the community.

"While many people may view innovation as the domain of business and science, organisers are committed to showcasing innovation in all aspects of business and the community," Mr Hancock said.

"The festival is structured so that everyone can engage and celebrate innovation. One of our key objectives is to encourage and promote the development of innovation throughout Gippsland," he added.

"Festival organisers will be circulating over 5000 programs across Gippsland next week to give maximum exposure to the festival and to ensure that people who do not have access to the internet can find out more about the festival," Mr Hancock concluded.
