From The Big Top To Hip Hop At Youth EventIf it’s always been your dream to run away and join the circus, here is your chance! By Bass Coast - 3rd April 2014 - Back to News Experienced circus trainers from the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) are coming from Melbourne to teach circus skills in a fun and safe environment at the Youth Week Event run by Bass Coast Shire Council’s Future Leaders Influencing our Community (FLIC).
‘No Talent Required’ will be held on Saturday, 12 April from 10.00am until 4.00pm in Wishart Reserve in McBride Avenue, Wonthaggi.
As well as producing innovative circus works and developing professional circus artists, NICA provides training for children, teenagers and adults.
They are passionate about using circus as a tool for social change and travel throughout Australia providing workshops. Graduates from NICA have gone on to perform in Australian and international circuses and arts companies such as Circus Oz, Cirque du Soleil, Disneyland, as well as doing stunt work in movies.
This workshop, held from 10.00am to 12.00pm on the grass at Wishart Reserve, McBride Avenue in Wonthaggi, is suited to people of all ages and abilities, from budding acrobats to those wanting to get a feel for the circus.
If clowning around or acrobatic acts aren’t quite to your liking, there are plenty of other free workshops on to choose from.
Jacinda Richards and the crew from Limbs2Riddims, also known as L2R, will be coming from Melbourne to share their love and passion for dance with the Wonthaggi community and run two fun, engaging and interactive hip hop workshops
Jacinda is an experienced teacher and performer of Contemporary, West African, Jazz, Latin and hip hop dance and is passionate about sharing her life-long love of dance with the world.
The hip hop dance workshops that Jacinda provides through Limbs 2 Riddims allow individuals to embrace the universal language of dance in a safe and comfortable environment.
The hour long workshops at 10.30am and 12.30pm will be suitable for all ages and levels.
Other workshops at the event include street art, African drumming, photography and video games.
These workshops all lead up to the community BBQ at 1.00pm and the Talent Show at 2.00pm, which will be showcasing the talents of Bass Coast Youth.
‘No Talent Required’ has received National Youth Week funding from the Victorian Government.
