Sport and Recreation funding announcementsMember for Morwell Russell Northe said the Latrobe Valley community has worked very hard to highlight the need for increased investment in our sports and recreation facilities. By Portal Admin - 13th March 2017 - Back to News Mr Northe said the announcements today by the State Government are an endorsement of the dedication and effort of so many volunteers who have advocated for improved facilities in our region.
"Our community and sporting facilities are particulate important in regional areas and once delivered, they will be of enormous benefit to our community.
"The Coalition is proud to have been able to support many of the projects announced today.
"That for example more than 3500 people had signed petitions to see the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre funded, which was among the announcements made by the Victorian Government today.
"Our community has fought long and hard to get the attention of the Andrews Government and have projects like the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre delivered and to which the Coalition had previously pledged funding.
"This is in addition to the Liberal-National Coalition providing funding of $650,000 in 2014 to develop a show court at Traralgon Tennis Association.
"It would have been beneficial if Daniel Andrews had noticed these projects much earlier and not during the middle of a jobs crisis; however I'm so pleased for those community members who have fought long and hard for these outcomes.
"It is now imperative that local residents are given first opportunity to undertake the building and construction of these projects, as well as any long-term employment, with just three weeks before our community will lose hundreds of jobs at Hazelwood Power Station.
"Daniel Andrews’ $252 million tax on Latrobe Valley generators is costing our community hundreds of jobs and it is imperative that some of the money they ripped out of these businesses is fed back into our local community."
