By GREEN Inc - 21st October 2004 - Back to News

GREEN Inc operates a Technology & Business Development Centre adjacent to Monash University’s Churchill campus.

GREEN Inc has made a huge effort to look at the types of waste they produce in-house and find practical ways to reduce the amount of waste they are sending to landfill.

Gippsland Regional Waste Management Group Director Graeme Middlemiss, congratulated GREEN Inc on receiving the prestigious award and for running a ‘Rubbish Free Lunch’ attended by many tenants to celebrate GREEN Inc’s achievement.

The celebrations were part of EcoRecycle’sZero Waste Week, a week dedicated to celebrating, rewarding and showcasing recycling and waste minimisation efforts across Victoria

"As a building manager with eight company tenants, GREEN Inc are setting a great example for their tenants and the community, they have come up with a range of ingenious ideas to reduce what they throw away," said Cr Middlemiss.

GREEN Inc aims to reduce the amount of waste they send to landfill from their offices by approx 40% through recycling, re-use, composting and avoiding the purchase of high waste products.

Roberta West, Executive Officer at GREEN Inc said "We are now thinking about everything before we put it in the bin and considering whether it can be reused, recycled or composted, rather than going to landfill. Becoming a Waste Wise Community Partner is part of the GREEN Inc vision to promote and develop a more diverse and environmentally sound Gippsland economy."

"We are reusing paper, and recycling everything we can – including turning our food scraps into plant fertiliser by using a Bokashi Bin in the kitchen,"

"We can reduce waste and close the recycling loop by making smarter purchasing decisions, for example we plan to purchase recycled content Australian made paper." she said.

GREEN Inc’s efforts add to a growing number of businesses that are committed to reducing their impact on the environment through waste reduction.
