Professor Reynolds received the prestigious award last week, in recognition of his research currently being utilized in a manufacturing plant in Toora.

Mr Davis said Professor Reynolds had performed astounding work in preventative dentistry, relieving the common fear of the dentist’s drill.

"Much to the relief of many with dentist-phobia, Professor Reynolds has developed new processes to repair tooth decay without invasive processes," Mr Davis said.

"The dental agent Recaldent is derived from cow’s milk and it can perform a number of dental processes including the early repair of tooth decay, prevention of tooth enamel loss and desensitize teeth.

"More than 50 tonnes of Recaldent is produced from the Toora milk manufacturing plant, which an extremely important industry for the South Gippsland community."

Mr Davis said the Victoria Prize celebrated leadership, determination, endeavour and creativity, highlighting the ways that research and development work of international significance is conducted locally.

"Professor Eric Reynolds is a very worthy recipient of this prize, for his significant contribution to the dental field and continuing industry in South Gippsland," he said.
