Vote For A Cowes Playground Design

Erehwon Point playground is due to be upgraded and Bass Coast Shire Council is calling in the experts!

By Bass Coast - 9th March 2012 - Back to News

Steven Piasente, Community and Economic Development Director, said Council wanted local families to vote for their preferred design for the playground. Council staff have worked with a playground equipment manufacturer to come up with two possible designs for the Erehwon Point playground. Through this process, we have covered off all the regulatory and safety issues that need to be adhered to.

"But it is the families and children who use the playground who are best placed to put these designs to the ‘taste test’," said Mr Piasente.

"The designs are on display in the park and on our website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/erehowon. There is also a short survey that people can complete to tell us more about which features of the playground they like. We are encouraging everyone who uses this playground to look at the designs and then vote online before 9 April 2012."

The project to upgrade the playground involves keeping some existing items, replacing the large aging play unit and installing a fitness station nearby. Erewhon Point is one of our most popular playgrounds and the new robust timber designs look fantastic. With the addition of the fitness stations there will be something for adults as well as children," said Mr Piasente.

"Now that we have two possible design options, we are keen for the community to have the final say on which design they would like.

The two designs consider improved access, the size of the play area, the coastal environment and creating a play environment different to those in nearby parks. They also take into account any constraints of the site and the budget.

The project was identified as part of Council’s Playground Plan 2010-15, and will cost approximately $70,000. $50,000 has been allocated from Council’s Capital Works budget. The Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo will contribute $10,000 and $10,000 has been secured through The Federal Government Active Communities Initiative grant to install the fitness station.

"We are very pleased that the Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo have become involved and I urge all park users to log onto www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/erehowon and place their vote." said Mr Piasente.
