What Did You Say About The Grantville Transaction Centre?

Residents of Grantville and surrounding towns say medical services are the main benefit of the Grantville Transaction Centre. This was followed by access to Council, its services and Councillors.

That’s according to the 183 people that responded to a satisfaction survey organised by the Grantville Transaction Centre Community Advisory Committee.

Community representatives on the Committee, Margaret Gardiner, Pam Male and John Hulley, said the Committee did the survey in June to help make the sure the services were meeting the needs of the community.

"Overall, people were satisfied with how well the current services met their needs," said John.

"Meetings with Councillors and internet services received a 100% satisfaction rating.

"47 percent of survey respondents said medical services were the main benefit of the Centre. While 37 percent of people believed access to Bass Coast Shire Council services were the main benefit," advised John.

"Council’s customer service received the highest level of ‘excellent’ responses (70 percent)," continued Margaret. "This was followed by internet customer service (68 percent), and the physiotherapist service (63 percent)."

"We’re really pleased with the results," said Margaret.

"There were also some really important suggestions for the expansion of services offered." said Pam.

Services recommended by survey respondents to be provided in the future were banking, police, ambulance, and pharmacy services.

"If these service providers decide to offer their services in the area, which we hope they will do in the very near future, we would consider other, more appropriate sites for their location," informed Cr Veronica Dowman, also a member of the Advisory Committee.

"The mobile library site will be relocated from the community hall to the Transaction Centre in the near future. The community is also working on a proposal to build a new public toilet in the Grantville Memorial Park," said Veronica.

The Grantville Transaction Centre was jointly funded by Federal, State and Local Governments. Bass Coast Shire Council provides a full time officer to run the Centre five days a week.

The aim of a Rural Transaction Centre is to allow rural and remote communities to introduce access to new services, or group together existing services into one location. The Grantville Transaction Centre provides a range of services including:

  • Health and Community Services;
  • Meeting Facilities for Community and Business;
  • Centrelink Agency;
  • Medicare Easy Claim Booth;
  • Broadband Internet Services;
  • Bass Coast Shire Council Services; and
  • Government Service Point Network – free access to government websites.

The Centre does not aim to compete with Community Centres or Neighbourhood Houses, which provide local communities with a place to meet for recreational activities and learning programs. These centres support literacy and skill development to build communities.
