Venus Bay Life Saving Club finishes third and takes home six medals from Inflatable Rescue Boat championships held at LorneLife Saving Victoria (LSV) has crowned its 2022 inflatable rescue boat (IRB) state champions this weekend at the TRE Motorsport Victorian IRB Championships held at Lorne Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC). By news@gippsland - 27th June 2022 - Back to News The biggest event on the Victorian IRB racing calendar saw teams from Inverloch SLSC and Venus Bay SLSC showcase their rescue ready skills using the most popular piece of modern rescue equipment. Venus Bay finished the weekend in third place overall in the under 23 division with 47 points, behind South Melbourne Life Saving Club (LSC) on 53 points and Elwood LSC on 55 points and backed this up with a seventh place finish in the open division on 29 points.

"IRB racing is not only a thrilling spectator sport, particularly in the surf, but facing a range of conditions like those at Lorne is also great practice for our athletes, who are the same lifesavers you see on patrol across the state during the summer. The IRB is known as 'the workhorse' of lifesaving rescue equipment, used for rescue, retrieval and surveillance, and were used for 142 rescues during the 2021-22 Victorian patrol season." Mr Green said. "Congratulations to all competitors on an excellent two days of competition and an enormous thank you to our volunteers who officiated, judged and managed the event, as well as Lorne SLSC for being our host club. It might be the end of the Victorian IRB racing season for 2022, but our teams can't wait to head to the Australian IRB Championships at Mollymook SLSC in New South Wales in late July!" Mr Green said. The Australian IRB Championships will be held from 21-24 July.
