Ingram calls for gas plant concerns to be addressed

The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, says the State Government must ensure that environmental concerns are addressed prior to final approval of the Patricia Baleen gas plant, near Orbost.

"Issues have been raised by some members of the Orbost and district community who have genuine environmental concerns due to the proposed plant being located close to Corringle Creek on the Snowy estuary.

"I have conveyed these concerns to the State Government, the East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority and the proponents of the project, OMV.

I note that the Minister has also raised this and several other similar issues in the State Government’s response to the environmental impact statement on the gas project.

"These concerns must be addressed to ensure that the project will not have any environmental impacts.

"Due to prior commitments I was unable to attend the public meeting held on Sunday, but a representative was in attendance and has briefed me fully.

"I congratulate the Snowy River Defence Group for organising the meeting which, from all accounts, was conducted in a professional and organised manner," Mr Ingram concluded.
