Two Gallery Exhibitions To Open This FridayTwo new exhibitions will open at the Latrobe Regional Gallery Friday 11 May at 6pm. By Latrobe City - 24th May 2007 - Back to News ‘Urban Myths’, an exhibition by lithograph artist Robert Clinch; together with the inaugural exhibition of the combined art societies of Latrobe in an exhibition called ‘Our Gippsland’, will feature in the combined opening which the public are invited to attend.
Latrobe Regional Gallery director, Jacqui Hemsley, said the opening night provides an opportunity for the public to hear the artists and presenters discuss their exhibitions.
"There will be plenty of opportunities to view the exhibitions over the next few weeks, but the opening night presents a unique opportunity to find out more about the exhibitions first hand," Ms Hemsley said.
"Robert Clinch’s lithographs are surreal and masterly detailed interpretations of city life, in particular New York - where he has spent the last eight years working and exhibiting.
"Also featuring scenes from Melbourne, Clinch’s work is imaginative and narrative. Each beautifully created print has hidden metaphor – in essence the myths that we assume we should be witnessing and the reality of what we really see."
Ms Hemsley said that ‘Our Gippsland’ will be featuring the very best of work from members of the Moe Art Society, Morwell Art Society and the Traralgon Art Group. ‘Our Gippsland’ will showcase nearly 55 paintings, drawings, watercolours and sculptures by local artists.
"Themed on each artist’s interpretations of Gippsland, the exhibition describes the beauty of the region through landscape, ocean scenes and forest. Our towns, people and industry are also represented through the artist’s eye," Ms Hemsley said.
"In conjunction with the exhibition, each group will be hosting artist demonstrations throughout the exhibition in oil painting, watercolour and pastel. All works featuring in ‘Our Gippsland’ are for sale and I am confident visitors will be impressed to see the diversity and talent of our local artists."
The exhibition ‘Urban Myths’ will run until 13 June. ‘Our Gippsland’ will feature until 9 June.
The Latrobe Regional Gallery is open 7 days, Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am – 4pm. Admission is free.
