Country Cemetery Trusts Urged To Make Submissions

The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, is urging country cemetery trusts to make a submission to the State Services Authority following the release of a report that may lead to the demise of trusts as single local entities.

By Craig Ingram MP - 6th June 2007 - Back to News

"The State Services Authority (SSA) has released an interim findings report titled Review of Major Cemetery Trusts, which makes three recommendations.

"Among the three recommendations is a single statewide entity, followed by a regional entity that would oversee regions.

"The first option listed is to retain the status quo of current arrangements, which seems to be the most sensible.

"Country trusts are operated by hardworking volunteers within the local community.

"I have written to all cemetery trusts within my electorate and discussions have already been held with some trusts that hold concerns at the options.

"The final report is due on June 30, so I urge trusts throughout country Victoria to give this report their prompt and serious attention," Mr Ingram concluded.
