Council Governance Procedures

Latrobe City Council has become aware of false claims circulating in the community regarding governance procedures at the ordinary council meeting of 7 October 2013.

By Latrobe City - 14th October 2013 - Back to News

Latrobe City Council’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said that the misinformation needed to be rectified.

"It has been brought to my attention that there are claims that Crs Gibbons and Gibson voted in chamber in relation to the independent review by the local government inspectorate into the governance processes for the Moe Rail Precinct Revitalisation Project and Moe Activity Centre Plan project (MRPRP/MACP). This is untrue.

"In both instances, when this report was considered during the meeting, Cr Gibbons and Cr Gibson raised conflicts of interest and left the chamber prior to the debate. Neither Councillor participated in the vote on this report," Mr Buckley said.

"It is important that the community understands that making false or inaccurate claims in any form, whether in print or in social media, fosters an atmosphere of mistrust and does nothing to reflect the desire of Council to execute correct governance procedures.

"The minutes of the meeting of 7 October will provide an accurate record of what happened on the night, as do all minutes of Council meetings. These will be available for public scrutiny on our website at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au," Mr Buckley concluded.
