Adopted Plans Call for ActionLearn more about the Municipal Early Years Plan and Disability Action Plan in this discussion. By news@gippsland - 24th June 2016 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council now has two important Plans to guide community development over the next four years with the adoption of the Municipal Early Years Plan 2016-2020 (MEYP) and the Disability Action Plan 2016-2020 (DAP) last night.
The MEYP will provide guidance to Council for decision making on matters relating to children (zero to 12 years) and their families residing in Bass Coast.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Jordan Crugnale, said the Plan was developed using a co-design process involving parents, children and early years’ service professionals.
"Families, schools, community, organisations, workplaces and all tiers of government have a responsibility to ensure our children are safe and supported," Cr Crugnale said.
"Research has shown that investment in the early years has returns in educational outcomes, productivity and positive community participation, so it is important to have strategic directions which are specific to our children aged 0-12 years.
"This Municipal Early Years Plan will see further investment in many forms based on need and priorities as identified by the children, parents, schools, service groups and organisations that have influenced this plan and work within the frameworks set by the State and Federal Governments."
The DAP was also developed with significant community consultation, with input received from 327 people with disability, carers, service providers, business owners, and general community members.
Initiatives in the Plan include safer crossings, beach and foreshore access, paths, street furniture that meets current standards and up-to-date maps.
Cr Crugnale emphasised the importance of the Plan, with almost 1,800 Bass Coast residents having some form of physical, mental or sensory disability.
"This Action Plan is a continuum of our social and capital investment to ensure mainstream participation and universal access applies to every person living, working and visiting Bass Coast," Cr Crugnale said.
"I would like to personally thank all the members of our Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee of Council who have provided guidance, support, on the ground knowledge in the development of this plan, and importantly solutions to the accessibility issues and challenges of today. We look forward to your continued input and review over the next four years."
