The Coalition Government is supporting this year’s Bendigo Bank Gippsland Business Awards with $3000 in funding, Nationals Member for Morwell and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business Russell Northe announced today.

Mr Northe said funding would sponsor the manufacturing and fabrication category of the awards, which celebrate local business excellence, innovation, development and success.

"Established in 1998, the Gippsland Business Awards highlight excellence among businesses across the region," Mr Northe said.

"The Awards play an important role in promoting Gippsland businesses to the region and provide a number of significant marketing opportunities for participants.

"Last year’s awards were extremely successful, attracting 300 nominations and 420 people to the gala presentation dinner."

Mr Northe said the awards provided a mechanism to highlight successful businesses within Gippsland and help raise the profile of businesses in the region.

"The Awards also provide networking opportunities for businesses and engender a culture of improvement and business excellence," Mr Northe said.

"By showcasing businesses from across Gippsland, the awards will encourage Gippsland residents to shop locally and take advantage of the many goods and services that exist across Gippsland."

Mr Northe said the Victorian Government funding for the Gippsland Business Awards would be provided to the Gippsland Business Awards Association.

Mr Northe said Victorian Government funding for the Bendigo Bank Gippsland Business Awards would be provided through the $1 billion Regional Growth Fund’s Putting Locals First Program.

"Putting Locals First is a $100 million initiative that enables regional communities to devise and deliver service and infrastructure responses that reflect local priorities," Mr Northe said.

"It is supporting stronger and more sustainable regional communities by building their capacity to drive development in their region."

Bendigo Bank Gippsland Business Awards Committee Chairperson Graeme Sennett said the Committee was thrilled to receive sponsorship support from the Victorian Government.

"Without support of this kind, it would not be possible for the awards to operate and have the opportunity to celebrate business success across our region," he said.

"The Bendigo Bank Gippsland Business Awards provides a unique and much relished opportunity for businesses from across the Gippsland region to compete and be assessed against each other.

"The process of preparing their entries provides business operators with an opportunity to reflect and assess not only what they have achieved to date, but what they wish to achieve in future.
"Many entrants believe that this is the most important part of the awards, as it encourages an ongoing self-evaluation and analysis of future business opportunities"

The Bendigo Bank Gippsland Business Awards will be announced at a gala dinner on 31 August.
