Citizens keen on benefiting Latrobe City are invited to apply for membership of a Community Engagement Reference Group that will help to develop a community engagement policy and strategy for Latrobe City.

Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hancock, said the group would help foster more effective consultation which will enable Latrobe City to make better and more informed decisions about issues impacting on the local community.  "There is no doubt that benefits will flow into the community when better outcomes and greater accountability are achieved," Mr Hancock said.

Mr Richard Hancock said that the establishment of a reference group that has active community involvement will help ensure community engagement is part of everyday life in local government.

"It is essential that the reference group is viewed as a central tool in planning and decision-making processes," Mr Hancock said.  "An integral part of good governance and community development is informing, consulting and listening to communities."

Mr Hancock also believes the Council is well positioned to listen to and respond to community interests, and that the establishment of the reference group will be extremely valuable in developing the Community Engagement Policy and Strategy.

"Latrobe City’s Community Engagement Policy and Strategy will be developed with help from the reference group. The Policy and Strategy will be used as a guide and monitor for community engagement conducted by Latrobe City Council staff," Mr Hancock explained.

The reference group will include both Latrobe City Council staff and citizens in the wider community. Persons interested in joining the group are asked to complete an expression of interest form available from Latrobe’s Citizen Service Centres in Traralgon, Morwell and Moe.
