Gippsland’s Premier Industry Leads The Way Again

The Gippsland Dairy Industry has been the recipient of the Victorian Agribusiness Network grant of $45,000 to coordinate the initial stages of a plan for the industry’s development over the next 10 years

The Gippsland Dairy Industry has been the recipient of the Victorian Agribusiness Network grant of $45,000 to coordinate the initial stages of a plan for the industry’s development over the next 10 years. The Gippsland dairy industry is fundamental to the growth of the region and has a large impact on the region’s communities.

Chair of the Gippsland Dairy Project, which is part of the Gippsland Agribusiness Forum, Mr Alex Arbuthnot, AM, said today, "Gippsland is abundant with natural resources and better planning can make Gippsland the premier dairying region in Victoria."

The grant will provide funding for Stage 1 of a 3 Stage development plan for Gippsland. Stage 1 focuses on generating stakeholder support from the farming sector, the agribusiness sector, local, state and federal government.

The plan will be directed towards attracting investment to this sound and growing industry. It aims to lay the pathway for a sustainable dairy industry in the future, build on the strengths and assets of the Gippsland dairy sector and promote the regional industry.

"The Gippsland Agribusiness Forum congratulates the Government for recognising the importance of the Gippsland dairy region," Mr Arbuthnot said.

Mr Arbuthnot is delighted to announce the appointment of Gippslander, Bronwyn Debenham as consultant to the project. Bronwyn has a degree in agricultural economics and wide experience in marketing in South East Asia and In Victorian agriculture. Bronwyn was the author of the "Gippsland Agribusiness Strategy – Growing Gippsland Agribusiness".
