For Rod and Margot McLeod, this has been an exceptional week for their business. The couple is glowing with the news that the beautiful Brigadoon bed and breakfast has been selected as one of Victoria’s top 5 in the 2002 Yellow Pages Victorian Tourism awards for hosted accommodation.
"We are ecstatic about our place in the awards. To be selected as a finalist among such strong competition is really exciting," Rod said. "We are definitely aiming to win next year!"
As more and more people discover the delights of Gippsland, businesses like Brigadoon bed and breakfast are experiencing a great increase in business. "In the last 12 months, our business has just exploded," commented Rod. It is no secret that Rod and Margot believe that much of this growth has been linked to developing e-commerce strategies for their business.
"Expanding our business to include e-commerce has been incredibly beneficial," noted Rod. At the moment, we are experimenting with marketing through the Internet. We can be found on the Visit Victoria website, in addition to our listing on Gippsland.com. We also use the Internet extensively to send information, submit quotes, respond to inquiries and for banking."
The Internet is a really useful tool for busy businesses like Brigadoon bed and breakfast, as a fast and convenient way to communicate with potential customers. "It is time saving, but really cost effective also," Rod agreed. "In just a few moments I can send off an information pack through e-mail. People have been responding really well, and a lot of our bookings are now made and confirmed using the Internet."
Gippsland businesses within the tourism and accommodation industries may find that e-commerce is a great way to open the business to new opportunities from interstate and international visitors that are researching the specifics for their trip through the Internet.
