Thomson Appoints New Small Business Advisory Council Small Business Advisory Council ensures a continued voice in the Bracks Government By Brent Hooley - 8th October 2002 - Back to News Victoria’s small businesses will have a continued voice in the Bracks Government through the newly appointed members of the Small Business Advisory Council, the Minister for Small Business, Marsha Thomson announced today.
Ms Thomson said the 23-member Council, established by the Bracks Government in June 2000, was giving Victoria’s 273,500 small businesses direct input into developing policies relevant to the small business sector.
"To date, the Council has been consulted on crucial Bracks Government initiatives and on the services most needed from Government to support the sector.
"I have every confidence this valuable, quality advice will continue under the new Council and I look forward to their future input," she said.
Ms Thomson appointed the Council, a key policy commitment of the Bracks Government, following a public application process that was open to small business operators throughout the State.
The Council, which includes nine existing and 14 new members, will meet four times a year and will be chaired by Doug Wright, Managing Director of Wright Business Marketing.
"Council members represent Victoria’s diverse and vibrant business community, with backgrounds in retail, manufacturing, information technology, services and export," Ms Thomson said.
"Importantly, business women are well represented with 12 female members on the Council," she said. "Regional businesses are also well represented with many members having substantial regional business experience."
Ms Thomson the Bracks Government was committed to strengthening small business advocacy to provide a favourable environment where Victorian small businesses can compete on fair terms.
"The Bracks Government is listening to and delivering for small business and will continue to work with business communities across Victoria to ensure they have every opportunity to grow and succeed," Ms Thomson said.
