Businesses Urged To Support Technology Skills Audit National Party Member for Gippsland – Peter McGauran We need you to participate in an online survey! By Peter McGauran - 23rd April 2002 - Back to News
National Party Member for Gippsland – Peter McGauran has urged local business owners to participate in an information technology skills audit aimed at building a more prosperous future for the region.
The Gippsland Information and Communication Technology Skills Audit and Analysis will involve a survey of up to 4000 businesses to understand and promote the role IT will play in future development opportunities.
"We are living in an increasingly globalised world which means many Gippsland farmers and companies are now doing business in foreign markets," Mr McGauran said.
"It also means our doors are open to international competitors. To compete on this world stage, we need to make maximum use of new technologies as they are developed and capitalise on the improvements in productivity and efficiency they can offer."
The project is being undertaken by GREEN Inc and will involve surveys of business owners, general employees and specialist IT employees.
Described as the first ever census of the region’s information and communication technology industry, Mr McGauran said GREEN Inc’s leadership was a bonus for Gippsland.
"It is extremely important for businesses to look at how they operate and how they can change to benefit from technological change," Mr McGauran said.
"We also need the IT industry to develop to provide job opportunities for young Gippslanders interested in a meaningful career in the region."
