Phillip Island and Gippsland Discovery have called for entries for 2002 Regional Tourism Awards, and Bass Coast Shire Council strongly encourages local operators to enter.

Daryl Warren, Tourism Coordinator at Bass Coast Shire Council, said he believes the awards are not only a great opportunity for local operators to be recognised for their contribution to regional tourism, but entering the awards also gives businesses a yearly "health check".

"Awards are great to win but those business operators that do win will testify that while winning is important, the value that a business receives in testing its marketing and business plans provides terrific insight into the business operation", said Daryl.

"The process of entering takes operators through all elements of their business," he explained. "All aspects are dealt with in detail and it is through this process that operators are able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their operation."

Daryl said that he believed entrants who take the time to respond to the criteria will derive a satisfaction from taking a pro-active and fun approach to business development through an award entry.

"Spend some time working on your business as well as in it and enter the awards today," said Daryl.

For more information and assistance with the criteria contact Daryl Warren at Bass Coast Shire Council on (03) 5671 2211 or 5951 3311 or via email at d.warren@basscoast.vic.gov.au.
