The South East Australian Transport Strategy Inc (SEATS) aims to stimulate and facilitate investment in transport infrastructure in south eastern New South Wales, eastern Victoria and the ACT Region. Members of SEATS include local government, regional development organizations, government agencies, regional industry and academics. The SEATS region is in a triangle to the east of a line linking the NSW City of Wollongong to the north, the Victorian City of Greater Dandenong to the south and the Cooma, Bombala, Tumut and Tumbarumba areas, the ACT and Yass, Goulburn and Crookwell to the west.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Sandy Kam welcomes the opportunity to host the quarterly meeting of this organisation, "SEATS Strategic Network Plan promotes transport infrastructure projects that benefit the region as a whole and is aimed at creating jobs and making our community safer and even more liveable". Cr Kam added that Latrobe City has long been a member of SEATS and has been a major contributor to their work over the last few years.

Cr Sue Whelan, chairman of SEATS said, "SEATS is pleased to be meeting in one of Victoria’s major regional cities and welcomes the opportunity to learn more about various transport infrastructure issues that Latrobe City and the Gippsland region are keen to have the support of all SEATS member councils". She said that "with the Federal election now just three weeks away we must ensure that all candidates and political parties know about our regions transport infrastructure needs."

"SEATS vigorously pursues many issues and with the support of Councils in Victoria and New South Wales, we believe that our requests will be very carefully considered. The strength of our organisation is that we have the support of 24 local government areas in south eastern Australia as well as industry and motoring groups."

In what Cr Whelan describes as a "very full agenda", SEATS delegates will be addressed by Mr David Hodgett, the Victorian Minister for Ports and Minister for Major Projects. "We are pleased that Russell Northe MLA, the Member for Morwell, a long time advocate for SEATS projects will also join us at the meeting," said Cr Whelan. "It is a really good time to get our message across to our elected representatives."
