Community Embraces Its Entertainment Centre

Wellington’s Esso BHP Billiton Wellington Entertainment Centre has been strongly embraced by the community with an estimated 40,000-plus people visiting the venue in its first year.

By Wellington Shire Council - 27th July 2005 - Back to News

After scooping three highly prestigious awards for building and architectural excellence last year, the centre has gone from strength to strength.

Cr Darren McCubbin said: "Nearly 19,500 people purchased tickets to see events at the centre in its first financial year of operation, which is more than we ever dreamt would be sold.

"And that figure only includes people who purchased tickets – it doesn’t include all of the people who visited the centre for functions in the meeting rooms, to see the exhibitions or to have a coffee in bis (the café in the centre).

Cr McCubbin said the main reasons for the terrific attendance figures at the centre were "a sensational opening festival, a great range of entertaining shows including superb local productions with Eye2Eye throughout the year and the fact that the centre has really struck a chord with the community and they are utililising it."
