Local Bowlers Tackle Albury LanesOn the Queen’s Birthday long weekend 15 local tenpin bowlers competed in the Adult Country Tenpin Championships in Albury By Tenpin Bowling Club - 21st June 2004 - Back to News Whilst most were happy to catch up with other bowlers from across country Victoria many struggled with the lane conditions at Albury. Most bowlers competed across all events including singles, doubles and teams, with a Masters competition being held on the Monday for both Graded and Open divisions.
The Latrobe Valley was fortunate to have four ladies qualify for the Ladies Graded Masters and there was a good possibility that the trophy would return here. Unfortunately Sue Jones was defeated in the second round by the current defending champion after battling out a tie-breaker game. The remaining three ladies then progressed to place in the top three positions. Karen Monds was defeated in the fifth round placing her third, whilst Anne Hogg progressed to the final where she met undefeated Christine Read. After an arduous four game final Anne narrowly defeated Christine for first place.
Simon Bree found some form in the Men’s Open Masters and battled through to the fifth round where he was beaten by one pin leaving him to finish with third place. Although Nicole Bree qualified third for the Ladies Open Masters she struggled with the lane conditions and was defeated in the third round to finish fifth.
