OVER $1/2 MILLION IN FEDERAL LABOR SUPPORT FOR MALLACOOTA PATHWAYS

Federal Labor Candidate for Gippsland, Jane Rowe has announced today funding of $550,000 to enable the completion of the Mallacoota Pathways Project.

Ms Rowe said that the Pathways project was an important one, not only for the local community but also for the continued development of the States ecotourism industry.

Ms Rowe explained that the pathway project at Mallacoota linked the Karbeethong area with the main Mallacoota village.

‘The pathway will include boardwalk sections and will parallel the western edge of the ‘Bottom Lake’ and will serve as a magnificent walkway" Ms Rowe said.

‘It will also improve safety for the large numbers of pedestrians using the narrow and windy roadway between Karbeethong and Mallacoota.  Anecdotal evidence suggested there had been many near misses between pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles along this link,’ she said.

The pathway will also be a key asset for Mallacoota’s tourist industry.

Ms Rowe reserved special congratulations for the East Gippsland Shire and the Mallacoota community who had worked closely to bring the project to fruition.

‘In particular during the past 12 months the community has provided input into the design that has been completed by a local designer’ Ms Rowe said.

The Shadow Minister for Trade & Regional Development, Mr Crean said Ms Rowe had championed the project in Canberra and continues to advocate for the needs of all people in Gippsland.

This announcement is part of Federal Labor’s commitment to support sustainable solutions, which stack up to meet the development needs of our regions.
