Nominate Your Community Sporting Heroes Now Victoria¡¦s community sporting heroes will soon have their chance to stand in the spotlight, with Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe announcing that nominations were now open for the 2011 By Russell Northe - 21st October 2011 - Back to News Victorian Government¡¦s Community Sport and Recreation Awards.
Mr Northe said the awards were an important way to acknowledge the people who were a driving force behind Victoria¡¦s thriving grassroots sporting community.
¡§This is a chance for the thousands of sporting clubs around Victoria to pay tribute to their very own sporting heroes ¡V both on and off the field,¡¨ Mr Northe said.
¡§We all know that local sport would simply not happen without passionate community members who volunteer and contribute so much to their club.
¡§The Latrobe Valley has been lucky enough to have a community member named in the 2010 awards, Howard Williams, who received the Senior Sportsperson Award.
¡§Howard has been involved in community sport for almost 50 years, most recently the Latrobe Valley Volleyball committee. Howard still plays volleyball and is a qualified referee and coach, and was therefore a great nominee for the award.
¡§There are many committed community members out there, across all codes. It¡¦s the spirit, the generosity of time and the commitment of both individuals and teams that inspires many of us to get out there and participate in sport.
¡§I encourage as many people as possible to nominate the individuals in their sporting community who are performing well and making a difference and deserve recognition,¡¨ Mr
Northe said.
The 2011 Victorian Government¡¦s Community Sport and Recreation Awards will be held at the MCG on Wednesday 30 November, and will honour individuals, teams or clubs with cash prizes across the following nine categories.
