Feedback Invited On Latrobe City Bicycle Plan

A new Latrobe City Bicycle Plan for the 2007-2010 period is now available in a draft format for public comment, and anyone who rides a bicycle is being invited to have their say.

By Latrobe City - 2nd October 2007 - Back to News

The new plan has been prepared by council following community consultation to identify cyclists’ needs and aspirations for the next four years.

Latrobe City’s traffic planner, Ray Bright, explained that the provision of bicycle facilities across the municipality is currently based upon the 1998 Latrobe Bicycle Strategy Plan and it was considered time to undertake a review.

"In the last ten years we have seen many changes in bicycle use for recreational purposes and commuter use. More people are identifying bicycle riding as a great way to get exercise, and others identify bicycles as a way to reduce their environmental footprint.

"Latrobe City’s new bicycle plan will identify further actions and projects to provide more facilities and encourage greater participation in cycling as an activity for the health, wellbeing and social benefits it provides," Mr Bright said.

"Included in the new plan will be the identification of cycling facilities within the seven smaller towns in Latrobe City – Boolarra, Glengarry, Toongabbie, Traralgon South, Tyers, Yallourn North and Yinnar.

Copies of the draft plan are available from Latrobe City’s service centres in Albert Street, Moe; Kay Street, Traralgon; and Commercial Road, Morwell; or on the Latrobe City website www.latrobe.vic.gov.au. Following the receipt of public comment, the plan will be referred to council for final consideration.

Comment on the draft plan will be received until 5pm Friday 26 October 2007 and should be forwarded to Ray Bright, Latrobe City Council, PO Box 264 Morwell 3840. Please contact Ray Bright, telephone 1300 367 700 for any further information.
