"The festival, now in its 29th year, celebrates and acknowledges older Victorians with an exciting program of entertainment and activities," Mr Northe said. "Free metropolitan and regional public transport will be offered for all Victorian Seniors Card holders from 2 - 9 October to attend festival events and visit friends and family." Other highlights of the 2011 festival program include: Opening day at Federation Square from 10.30am to 4pm on Sunday 2 October with performances on the main stage, the carnival of learning with the University of the 3rd Age and active living and dance demonstrations. Festival Hub at Lower Melbourne Town Hall with free lunchtime concerts from 3 - 9 October, displays, exhibitions and travel information sessions. Concerts at Melbourne Town Hall including the World Music Concert, the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra and the popular Seniors Variety Show on Thursday 6 October. Bowls Victoria and beyondblue are providing free lawn bowls with about 100 open days scheduled at clubs across Victoria.

Mr Northe said the Traralgon RSL Bowling Club will be providing free lawn bowls on Wednesday 5 October from 10:30am – 3:00pm. Also held locally will be the State Trustees Country Concert Series featuring Ernie Sigley on Tuesday 4 October at 10:30am at Kernot Hall, and entry is free. Mr Northe said the fastest growing group of internet users is people aged between 65 and 74. "Seniors Online is a new website we have developed to be a first port-of-call for Victorian seniors looking for information online," Mr Northe said. "You will find all the information you need in one simple, easy to use website with information on Government programs to community contacts and the 2011 Seniors Festival program. "The website will also present a range of further offers from Seniors Card participating businesses. Card holders should check Seniors Online regularly to find new offers." Mr Northe said the Victorian Government was committed to helping senior Victorians live healthy, independent and active lives. "The Victorian Seniors Festival is an important part of this commitment where we encourage older Victorians to try new activities and participate in their local community," Mr Northe said.

"More than 250,000 copies of the festival program are distributed state-wide so I encourage all Victorian seniors to pick up a copy or download it from the new website." The 2011 Victorian Seniors Festival Program is available at all Coles stores, libraries, council offices, neighbourhood houses and various community and seniors’ organisations.
