Community Safety Month

An Emergency Services and Community Safety Expo is being held on Sunday, 31 October to celebrate Community Safety Month.

By Bass Coast - 22nd October 2010 - Back to News

The Expo will be at the San Remo Foreshore Reserve between 10.00am and 2.00pm as part of the San Remo Fishing Village Festival.

Bass Coast Shire Council Emergency Management Coordinator, James Bremner, said the Expo is a great opportunity for the community to come and see what community safety is all about.

"We’ve learnt from the recent bush fires and floods how important it is for the community to be resilient and prepared," said Mr Bremner.

"Expo organisers from the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee will have information on what is being done to reduce the likelihood and consequences of emergencies in Bass Coast.

"People will be able to see vehicles that might be used by emergency services such as CFA, SES, and Victoria Police and ask the experts how best to prepare for emergency situations," said Mr Bremner.

Representatives from Council, Victoria Police, the CFA, Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) Ambulance Victoria, SES, Department of Human Services, Red Cross, Westernport Water and other local organisations, will be on hand to provide advice and information about a range of safety-related matters.

"Community members will be able to pick up bushfire planning advice from the CFA and DSE and talk with agencies involved in bushfire preparation and recovery," said Mr Bremner.

"There will also be free bike safety checks between 11.00am and 12.00pm as part of road safety and bike education.

"We want our community to feel empowered and confident so that they are prepared to deal with an emergency situation should one happen.

"I encourage all Bass Coast residents to come along and help make Bass Coast a safer place to live," said Mr Bremner.
