Deputy Mayor Jeff Amos elected to MAV Wellington Shire’s Deputy Mayor Jeff Amos has been elected to the board of Victoria’s peak body for local government – the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) – where he will be representing the interests of the whole Gippsland region. By Wellington Shire Council - 2nd March 2005 - Back to News The MAV advocates on behalf of Victoria’s 79 councils to the State and Federal Governments as well as other agencies.
Councillor Amos, a retired teacher, is looking forward to this latest challenge which builds on his extensive involvement in the local community and in local government.
As Mayor for Wellington Shire during 2004 he helped the council with its successful lobbying of the State and Federal Governments - for example to ensure continuation of the Federal-funded Roads to Recovery program beyond its original end date of 2004 and locking in the expansion of RAAF East Sale.
He said: "I‘m very much looking forward to taking up the challenge of this new position to lobby the State and Federal Governments for better services for the Gippsland region. Amongst particular areas that I will be pursuing will be greater levels of funding for the maintenance and upgrade of roads and aged care services.
"Gippsland is Victoria’s most strategically important region, providing most of the state’s energy and a key provider of water supply to Melbourne. In addition it’s one of the most important producers and exporters of agricultural products in Australia.
"There is much to do in increasing the awareness of Governments about Gippsland and I am eager to commence the task."
