Multi-million dollar upgrade of 'The Esplanade' in Lakes Entrance continues
Multi-million dollar upgrade of The Esplanade in Lakes Entrance is continuing with the latest section of footpath being installed.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester secured funding for the work in 2016 and says the transformation will save lives, improve liveability, boost the visitor economy and create jobs. "This program of works has taken several years but the upgrades to the highway, shared pathway, pedestrian crossings, car parking and footpaths have all been aimed at delivering social and economic outcomes," Mr Chester said.

Securing the funding
Mr Chester said, "There's been jobs for local contractors and the end result will make Lakes Entrance an even better place to live and visit. The current footpath work is not the end of the road program because I've also secured Federal Government funding for Marine Parade, Eastern Beach Road intersection, and Hazel Road at Kalimna."
Mr Chester said the extensive works had required partnership funding from the State Government and East Gippsland Shire Council. "This program started five years ago when I was Transport Minister and although it's taken longer than anyone expected, the end result is fantastic," he said.
"Hopefully we will get to a position soon where post-COVID travel becomes possible and I'm confident that Lakes Entrance businesses will benefit from the interest in domestic travel. Overseas travel will be more difficult for quite a while and I'm expecting regional areas like East Gippsland to benefit, and our town is ready to welcome visitors when that's possible." Said Mr Chester.
