17 inventions have been entered in the competition. "We are delighted with the quality of inventions both from Gippsland and outside the region, and can assure anyone who comes along that they will be astounded by the wealth of great ideas and innovative people participating in the competition." Said Professor Laurence Dooley, from Monash Unversity.

The competition, which is hosted by the Monash Regional Centre for Information and Communications Technology, will be held at the Student Union Lounge, Monash University Gippsland Campus. Anyone is welcome to come along from 10:00am to meet the inventors and inspect the inventions. Winners will be announced at a public ceremony which will commence at 1:30pm.

A feature of the competition will be the Peoples Choice Award, for the invention that receives the most votes. Anyone can vote for their favourite invention at the competition or at MidValley shopping centre where some of the inventions will be on display this week. People can also vote by visiting the web site: http://innovation.gippsland.com/InventorsCompetition.

There will be cash, prizes and winners plaques for the best Gippsland inventor, Gippsland Runner Up and Outside Gippsland inventor. The outside Gippsland category has attracted inventors from as far away as Western Australia who are traveling to Gippsland especially for the competition.

The competition is supported by the Rural Inventors Association, AusIndustry, Telstra Countrywide, Monash Commercial and East Gippsland TAFE. The judging panel is made up of representatives from the Industry Capability Network (ICNL), Gippsland company Safetech, ABC New Inventors program, the Rural Inventors Association and East Gippsland TAFE.
