Boolarra Memorial Park receives Council grant

Latrobe City Council has provided a $6000 Community Grant to the Boolarra Memorial Park, for refurbishment of the Park pavilion

Latrobe City Council has provided a $6000 Community Grant to the Boolarra Memorial Park Committee of Management, for refurbishment of the Park pavilion.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Tony Hanning, said the funding would allow extensive works to be carried out to the pavilion, to benefit users of the facilities.

President of the Committee of Management, John Carghill, said a strong case for funding had been presented to Council, and the Committee was extremely pleased with the grant resulting from their application.

“The rooms in the pavilion are more than twenty years old and desperately need freshening up and more light,” Mr Carghill explained.

“The work we can now undertake will basically double the size of the tennis and netball clubroom by removing a wall between the present facility and a storage area which is no longer needed.

“It will provide a far more useful and pleasant room for club meetings, afternoon teas, and the general running of the clubs. It will also make this room more usable by the basketball club,” Mr Carghill said.

“Work will also be carried out in the Nissen hut, protecting the existing lighting from damage from thrown or kicked balls, by suspending wire netting across the room under the lights.

“Additionally, the football change rooms and shower area will receive attention, with new tiles being laid in the shower, and upgrades to the hot water heaters,” Mr Carghill said.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Tony Hanning said the Boolarra grant was one of numerous community grants being made to community organisations throughout Latrobe City during 2000-2001.

“Council this financial year will provide almost half a million dollars in funding assistance for community groups, for projects ranging from simple maintenance jobs at community facilities to staging major events,” Cr Hanning said.

“This Council recognises that funding distributed throughout the many and varied community groups and organisations within the municipality has far reaching benefits for all Latrobe citizens,” Cr Hanning added.
