Energising your Community Grants
Latrobe’s electricity distributor, AusNet Services, formerly SP AusNet, is providing $20,000 for a community development program in partnership with the Latrobe City Council.
The community development program, called ‘Energising Your Community’, is aimed at providing eligible local not-for-profit organisations the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to $3,000.
Jim Haylock, AusNet Services’ Regional Customer and Community Manager, said AusNet Services was committed to the safe and reliable supply of electricity and eager to help eligible community-minded groups deliver sustainable projects.
"The ‘Energising Your Community’ program demonstrates our commitment to the growth of the region by building stronger relationships in the communities in which we operate," Mr Haylock said.
"Our community development programs have been highly successful in helping not-for-profit organisations service their communities," he said.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said that the’ Energising Your Community’ program would provide valuable funds for local groups.
"We know there are many passionate people in our community working hard behind the scenes in many different areas – sporting and recreation clubs, service organisations, support groups. Being able to access grants to develop projects or deliver services or events will benefit not just these groups, but the wider community.
"The purpose of the Energising Your Community program is to benefit the local community and projects must have broad community benefits. Like the Council’s own community grants program, this sort of funding creates real opportunities to improve social wellbeing, deliver community events or perhaps even pay for much needed infrastructure, equipment or renovations.
"The grants program will open for applications on Monday, 29 September 2014 and will remain open until Friday, 24 October 2014. We would encourage all eligible groups to consider making an application for a grant," Cr Gibson said.
