works to be undertaken in the 06/07 year.

In presenting Latrobe City’s mid year review, which was adopted by council at Monday night’s council meeting, Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said it was a very pleasing result for the municipality.

Among the items earmarked for the additional funding as a result of the review, is a project which will improve drainage in the Newman Park children’s playground in Traralgon; creation of designs for the Traralgon Outdoor Recreation Plan which will prepare the way for lighting upgrades and building refurbishment to a number of facilities; replacement of the Coach Road lookout tower in the Haunted Hills with a new viewing platform; additions to the municipal pound facility in Morwell, which will see it double in size; pedestrian refuges in Commercial Road, Morwell; and a replacement fence in Narracan Drive, Moe.

Mr Buckley said council continues to be in a strong financial position allowing some major variations to be made to operational budgets. Apart from some ‘one-off’ projects that will now get underway, an additional $100,000 will boost council’s footpath replacement program; $100,000 is being earmarked for additional local road reseals; and there is $70,000 additional funding for kerb and channel replacement.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora said the funding boost is great news for the community. "I’m extremely happy that good fiscal management has resulted in additional projects being delivered to the community. It’s a strong indication that our municipality is delivering for the community in a responsible and effective manner," Cr Zimora said.
