Bass Coast Shire Council has won the 2009 Award for Rural Municipal Excellence for processing subdivision applications during 2007 and 2008.

Council’s Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said the award was a real honour for Council and particularly the Development Services Team.

"Award winners are selected with the input of land surveyors and therefore reflect how our performance is assessed by the industry," said Ms Duncan-Jones.

"This award acknowledges the team’s hard work in the area of subdivisions over the last two years.

"They took a team approach to assessing subdivisions, drawing on a broad range of skills including engineering, planning, geographical and property information management."

A significant contribution to the award winning performance is the work of Don Jackson.

"Don is one of the senior statesmen of Council’s Development Services Team," said Ms Duncan-Jones.

"He has a wealth of knowledge and experience which he puts into practice, not only through the work he performs but also the significant mentoring he undertakes each and every week.

"The team has worked hard to improve how we handle subdivisions as well as improving our relationship with the surveying industry. We now have better information flow and better results.

"Our aim is to keep improving this relationship and achieve best practice with the design and implementation of subdivisions," continued Ms Duncan-Jones.

The Association of Consulting Surveyors Victoria (ACSV) runs the Award for Rural Municipal Excellence. The ACSV represents land surveyors in the private sector and aims to improve the standards of surveying in Victoria.
