"The new piece of equipment is the JLG E45OAJ Electric Elevating Work Platform, which has a maximum height of 13.7 metres," said Mark Nestor, Coordinator of the Construction and Safety Centre.

The Elevating Work Platform is used throughout all training packages in all trade areas of the Institute including the Painting and Decorating, Plumbing and Building Departments.

The platform is used in the training and assessment for a national certificate using Worksafe guidelines and the platform is utilised during the rigging course in the erection and dismantling of a steel tower.

"This type of platform is what is currently used in industry, this will enable us to provide training and assessing using up to date equipment," said Mr Nestor.

The Elevated Work Platform in conjunction with the Tadano 20 Tonne Rough Terrain Mobile Crane ensures the Construction and Safety Centre are able to offer a more ‘hands on’ approach to training.

GippsTAFE’s Construction and Safety Centre offers basic and extension vocational training that meets National Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Codes of Practice, and National Certification Requirements.

Students can undertake theoretical and practical training in all facets of Dogging, Rigging, Scaffolding, Mobile Crane, and Mobile Plant Certification all within a purpose built facility that allows training to occur in an environment that promotes excellence in the industry.
