The grant scheme - jointly funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria and the Department for Sustainability and Environment (DSE) - will enable much-needed works to be carried out on these two sporting facilities.

The welcome $10,000 boost for Yarram’s football ground will facilitate the installation of a new drainage network, an automatic watering system and the introduction of a bore.

Newry’s $7,755 grant will fund a renovation program including spraying and removal of the ground surface, installation of irrigation equipment and sowing and fertalising of new seed.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "These grants will provide an invaluable contribution to the overall usability of these very important sporting facilities. The council works in partnership with local sporting groups to apply for and secure funding from the state government, and our success in this instance means that two of our towns will benefit from some very worthwhile upgrades."
