Clint Eastwood - Independent Candidate for Gippsland East

'What really matters to East Gippslanders'

By Clint Eastwood - 10th October 2006 - Back to News

Independent candidate for Gippsland East, Clint Eastwood is urging all other candidates to start to look at ‘the big picture’.

"The big picture, is about caring for the future of our electorate, the future of our region, the future of our people; that is what really matters".

"What matters is whether our families are healthy, and that they can receive appropriate treatment when they are sick.

What matters is whether our farmers, our businesses, our industries; will be able to not just survive, but to succeed in the years ahead.

What matters is whether our kids will have the education, employment and even entertainment opportunities, to encourage and enable them

to stay in our community, and not have to move away to the city".

"I hope for the generations now, and of those ahead, will still be able to enjoy the unique lifestyle that Gippsland East offers.

We all know what a great place Gippsland is, so let’s keep it great!" said Clint.

"What Gippsland East certainly does not need or much less deserve, is a ‘bunch of people handing out glossy brochures’

or of candidates posturing and pontificating.

An election should not be about who is going to offer the biggest ‘buckets of money’ or whether a community project

MIGHT someday become a reality, just because you vote for the right person, or the right party. That is not what democracy is about".

"Health should be one of the ‘top priorities’ on candidates agendas, especially our local member, but so far, the silence is indeed deafening.

Have you seen the situation with our hospitals, health centres and clinics? What is really going on in Sale and Maffra;

is everything ok in Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance; and how are things up in Omeo, Orbost and Mallacoota?

Look, I’m not out to be negative, as that doesn’t help anyone at all, but our health system is and should be, at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

It should not matter whether you live in Briagolong or Bemm River, Heyfield or Hinnomunjie, Tubbut or Tostaree.

Everyone is entitled, no actually, it is their right, that they should be able to access medical services and receive adequate treatment,

regardless of their age, gender, location and so forth. Inevitably, we will all need medical care at some time in our lives".

"We have such a great community here in Gippsland East, and it is because of our wonderful citizens.

Just have a look at the tremendous and constant tireless efforts from the many community groups,

that give so much to make a difference to all of our lives.

The CFA and SES, the CWA and Red Cross, or the Lions and Rotary.

I could go on and on. There are so many good deeds done by so many generous people and groups".

"And there is one particular group, whose efforts in the community must be applauded, and that group is The Pelicans.

This group is raising funds towards the building of a new Dialysis and Cancer Unit at the Bairnsdale Hospital.

So far the Pelicans have raised a staggering $300,000 towards their target of half a million dollars.

That is the sort of quiet achievement and display of community generosity, that makes me so damn proud to be an East Gippslander.

My sincere hope is that ‘those in power’ can see their way in matching funds to those already raised,

so that the people who must use the current outdated facilities will soon get their new building".

"What matters are that the needs of the people of Gippsland East are listened to and acted on,

and not simply ignored by our elected representatives?

The great people of Gippsland East deserve to be heard and respected!"

"What really matters to most East Gippslanders though, is not of who is elected, but how well they do their job".

"So I am asking, what really matters to you?"
