Gippsland Water receives wastewater for emergency storage

Expressions of interest are being sought for two people to serve on the National Parks Advisory Council.

By Department of Sustainability & Environment - 27th September 2005 - Back to News

Since 1975 the Council has advised the Minister for Environment on the administration of the National Parks Act. It consists of ten members, including eight nominated by the Minister on the basis of specific selection criteria.

Council’s convenor, Ian Harris, said that national parks are managed on behalf of all Victorians to protect the environment, as well as providing enjoyment, recreation and education. The Council plays an important role in advising the Minister on their management.

"The Council includes members from a range of backgrounds, including representatives of urban and rural communities."

"One of the positions now up for renewal requires someone with skills or experience relating to the preservation and protection of parks. The other position requires someone with experience in local government who resides in a municipality in which there is a national or other park under the National Parks Act.

"Expressions of interest for the two positions close on 14 October 2005.

"We are looking for people who have an active interest in how the National Parks Act is implemented and who will be available for at least five Council meetings per year, plus a couple of two day field trips," said Mr Harris.

Council members are entitled to sitting fees and reimbursement of expenses for attending meetings.

People interested in receiving further information about the National Parks Advisory Council should contact the Department of Sustainability and Environment’s Customer Service Centre on 136 186.
