Mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan said the funding announcements were great news for the community.

"Council will receive $800,000 towards the development of a new purpose-built shared facility for Monash Reserve and $1.1 million to contribute to an extension of the existing Moe/Newborough Leisure Centre," Cr O’Callaghan said.

"$800,000 is a meaningful start to work that needs to occur to secure the $3.1 million project for Monash Reserve.

"Council has worked with the Moe and District Netball Association and the Moe Tennis Association to design a $1.5 million multi-use facility and a $1.6 million courts complex.

"With this announcement secured, Council will continue to work with other funding bodies to deliver the total funding allocation.

"The $1.1 million allocation to the Moe/Newborough Leisure Centre will allow us to commence planning for an extension to the existing facility.

"Fiona Nash, Minister for Regional Development, has been working solidly on this project. We thank her for the support and continued commitment to Gippsland and Latrobe City.

"We thank Federal Member for McMillan Russell Broadbent for his support and note his continued commitment to investing in health and wellbeing outcomes for the local community.

"Moe and Netball District Association and Moe Keenagers have been working tirelessly on these projects for years and we must acknowledge their tenacity and determination to secure a positive community outcome.

"They’ve been vocal proponents of these projects – they’ve advocated, lobbied, fought hard and finally that effort has been rewarded.

"It’s a testament to their collective work and a great reminder that if we stay strong as a community - focused and united on an outcome - then together we can achieve great results."
