Bass Coast Shire Council excelled at the Chartered Accountants/Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) Annual Report Awards recently.

Council was recognised over 37 other councils to be named the overall winner for Best Reporting on Performance (Low Resource) 2011-2012.

Council’s MAV representative, Councillor Kimberely Brown, accepted the award on behalf of Council at the MAV State Council Meeting on Thursday, 16 May.

The awards were very competitive this year with the judges making some difficult calls.

Feedback received from the MAV praised Council’s overall report for being user friendly and easy to follow with the report addressing the important areas to Council. The overview within the report on how rates were spent was highlighted as leading practice, as was Council’s sustainability reporting.

Mayor, Cr Clare Le Serve, was thrilled with Council’s win and congratulated all involved in putting together the Annual Report.

"There are only six awards given to low resource councils, so to be recognised as one of the best is a great achievement and something we are very proud of at Council," Cr Le Serve said.

"This award really backs up all the work we are doing internally at Council that people may not see out in the community everyday."

The Council’s Annual Report is one way the Council demonstrates its accountability to the community. The report is a valuable resource containing detailed information on the Council and its performance over the past year. It also contains a comprehensive financial report.

On top of winning the Best Reporting on Performance Category, Council was also shortlisted for all six award categories.

Council has won a number of categories at the Annual Report Awards over the years, including last year when it was named the overall winner for Best Reporting on Corporate Governance (Low Resource) 2010-2011.
