Yinnar Skate Park In The Works Yinnar is set to receive a skate park if the Coalition is elected on November 27, said Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe today. By Russell Northe - 24th November 2010 - Back to News Mr Northe said the town deserved to have a skate park for its younger residents, and has pledged $80,000 towards the project.
"We have seen the success of small town skate and recreation parks in the Morwell Electorate, and the benefits they bring to our youth, such as exercise, friendships and confidence," said Mr Northe.
"I had previously observed the drive from the Glengarry community and its younger people to gain funds to develop their skate park, and I have seen the benefits it does bring to a town, especially in ensuring there is a safe place for the younger members to come together and participate in a popular activity.
"I have also witnessed the popularity of skateboarding in other smaller communities such as Yallourn North and in Boolarra, so it is terrific that the Yinnar community will also benefit from a similar investment."
Mr Northe said the Yinnar and District Community Association and the youth of Yinnar were the driving force behind the project, and credited their hard work and dedication over the years to develop the town to its potential.
"Our small communities are such a great feature of our region, and it’s fantastic to see groups such as the Yinnar and District Community Association put in so much effort to ensure that their youth have a place they can call their own.
"In conjunction with other stakeholders such as Latrobe City Council and the community in general, the delivery of a new skate park in Yinnar will be a tremendous asset in the town.
"It is also imperative that our younger generation have the opportunity to participate in a range of sport and recreation activities and skate parks deliver such opportunities.
"Yinnar is a fantastic part of our region, and I have been fortunate enough to visit the town on a number of occasions over these past four years. During this time, I’ve had the opportunity to listen to the concerns of the community, and at the same time meet some wonderful people.
"Our small towns are such an important part of our community, and it’s vitally important that they have full support to be able to continue to enhance and build into the future."
